Delta of Venus (1995)
Zalman King is a master of erotic image, and this film, which is based on Anais Ninn's book by the same name, gave us the opportunity to take our "Red Shoe Diaries" approach to a new level.
Since the story is about a young woman in Paris during the 30's who undergoes a personal awakening both spiritually and sexually, I used a soprano singing lyrics in French based upon Ninn's text along with a female East Indian vocalist singing ragas to emphasize the dual aspects of her nature. They are accompanied by string orchestra, a small jazz ensemble, and exotic percussion.
